This Aviation image was shot at PDK airport in the install department of Epps. This was part of a video project I was shooting on this Pilatus PC-12 that was getting an avionics upgrade.
To get this angle, the camera is set below the floor level as the entire interior had been removed and some of the floorboards have also been removed. While the technician was working I noticed a small area that I thought might be possible to fit a camera with an 8mm-15mm fish-eye zoom lens.
After about 5 minutes I found I could get it into the small area by taking the lens off, setting the camera in then attaching the lens. I could just get one of my Canon full frame cameras with the lens into position but I could not see what the camera was seeing and I could not determine if it was in focus.
So I removed the lens, then the camera, connected a shutter release cable to the camera and an HDMI cable from the camera to a 7" external monitor. I then turned the camera on, set it to Live View then returned the camera then the lens where they were before, so now I could see to focus and also where to aim the camera.
The angle was not quite right so I moved it around as much as I could and still get the shot. I then just watched and pushed the shutter release remotely when I though I may get a cool image.
I'm always trying to get a different and unusual POV. (Point Of View) to make "The same photo" but more interesting and different. As part of post processing, I "De-Fished" the rounded looking image you always get from any Fish-eye lens to give it a flat field, or rectilinear lens look. Almost all lenses are rectilinear, or very close to, and is what we are used to seeing.
The Gear: Canon 5D MKIII at 10,000 ISO, 1/30 second shutter speed using a Canon 8-15mm fisheye zoom lens set to 14mm using f7.2 connected to a 7" SmallHD monitor via an HDMI cable using a remote shutter release cable.
The Light: An LED work light and ambient.
